Thraseas came from an influential family; his father Aëtos had been Ptolemaic governor of Cilicia, and his son Ptolemaios was a leading general of Ptolemaios IV, although he later defected to Antiochos III. Thraseas also appears in an Athenian inscription ( IG_23.1.1185 ), receiving honours for his role as an envoy to Athens.
