A STATUE OF ATTALOS I, DEDICATED BY EPIGENES AT PERGAMON

Greek text:   IvP_1.29
Date:   229-197 B.C.
Format:   see key to translations

This inscription was found on one of the three bases commemorating the victories of Attalos I; the other two were inscribed with OGIS_269 and OGIS_273-279.   This base probably carried an equestrian statue of the king.   The king repaid the compliment by dedicating a statue of Epigenes on the island of Delos ( IG_11.4.1109 - Greek text ).

This statue of king Attalos was dedicated by Epigenes and the commanders and soldiers who took part in the battles against the Galatians and Antiochos, as a thank-offering to Zeus and Athena.   The work of Epigonos.
