A DEDICATION BY ATTALOS, AFTER A BATTLE AGAINST THE BITHYNIANS

Greek text:   IvP_1.65
Date:   c. 183 B.C.
Format:   see key to translations

The battle commemorated by this inscription at Pergamon is probably the victory over Prousias and Ortiagon that led to thanksgiving at Telmessos ( THI_116 ). The Lypedron, where the battle was fought, is otherwise unknown; Dittenberger suggested it might be the same as Mount Lyparos, where king Zipoites founded a city ( Memnon_12'5 ).

Attalos son of king Attalos dedicated this to Zeus and Athena Nikephoros from the battle against the Bithynians and Galatians near the Lypedron.
