OGIS: 53

A DEDICATION AT KOPTOS BY APOLLONIOS THE DIOIKETES

Greek text:   OGIS_53
Date:   c. 246 B.C.
Format:   see key to translations

Although Apollonios, the dioiketes of Egypt during the reign of Ptolemy II, is well known from the Zenon papyri, none of the surviving documents specify his original homeland. In the lack of any other evidence, the prominent mention of the unusual epithet Apollo Hylates in this inscription may indicate that Apollonios had family links with Cyprus; see K.J.Rigsby, "Two Texts of the dioiketes Apollonius" ( PDF ).

Dedicated to Apollo Hylates, Artemis Phosphoros, Artemis Enodia, Leto Euteknos and Herakles Kallinikos by Apollonios the dioiketes.
