KYME HONOURS JUDGES FROM MAGNESIA

The custom of calling in 'foreign judges' to help judge law suits, which became very common later in Hellenistic times, was encouraged by Antigonos at an early stage in its development; see R.A.Billows, "Antigonos the One-Eyed and the Creation of the Hellenistic State", pp.211-2 ( Google Books ).


It was resolved by the people {of Kyme}: since the panel of judges, arriving from Magnesia according to the edict of Antigonos for the private law suits, has judged them all on the spot, incorruptibly [and justly]; therefore it is resolved to praise . . .
