The 'huntsmen' in this inscription were associated with the cult of Herakles Kynagidas, which was popular in Macedonia, and from the interest that the king took in them, it appears that they must have been chosen from some of the leading families. The inscription was first published by B.G. Intzesiloglou, "The inscription of the Kynegoi of Heracles from the ancient theatre of Demetrias" ( academia.edu ).

From Antipatros.   The huntsmen {kynēgoi} of Herakles are seen to wear colourful petasoi, but they ought to have dark grey petasoi and also dark grey chlamydes, according to the investigation that the king has instigated about this matter. Therefore cause this statement to be inscribed on a small block of stone, and set up in the temples.   Year 37, 24th day of Apellaios.
