Sylloge Inscriptionum Graecarum: 460

DELPHI GRANTS PRIVILEGES TO THE DIONYSIAC ARTISTS

Date:     c. 300-280 B.C.
Format:   see key to translations

Dittenberger thought that this inscription belonged to the middle of the 3rd century B.C., but it is now considered to be somewhat earlier - shortly before 280 B.C. - which would make it the earliest known reference to a guild of Dionysiac Artists.

God. The Delphians have granted to the guild of artists, who have gathered at the Isthmos and Nemea, priority in access to the oracles, privileged seating at games, and priority in receiving justice. When the archon was Ainesilas, and the members of the council were Deinon, Amynandros and Ornichidas.
