Delphi had good reason to be grateful to M'.Acilius, the Roman consul of 191 B.C.: see Syll_609, which was also inscribed on the base of this statue.
The city of Delphi dedicated this statue of Manius Acilius, son of Gaius, the general and consul of the Romans, to Apollo, on account of his virtue and his good conduct towards the temple and the city.
