The Martyrdom of Saint Shushanik

A short version published by I. Abuladze

[81] Saint Shushanik was the daughter of General Vardan of Armenia. She was given in marriage to Vezgen [sic], the margrave of Georgia, who went to the Persians and forsook Christ. Upon his return he tortured Saint Shushanik so that she too would forsake Christ. But Shushanik despised him for his apostasy and refused to share either food or marriage [bed] with him. He tortured her for several years with many blows of the bastinado and with hunger. Though her body was full of worms, she tolerated [her condition] with gratitude, and eventually found repose in Christ and was buried.

Through her intercession many have been cured by her relics.
