These statues, naming Marcellus as 'patron', were probably dedicated to Augustus' nephew, in the last year of his life, when he came to be regarded as a likely successor to Augustus. [B] The council [and the] people { of Tanagra } honour Marcus [Claudius] Marcellus, son of . . ., their patron, on account of his virtue and goodwill.
