MEGARA HONOURS HIKESIOS OF EPHESOS

As governor of Aigina, which had been under Attalid control since 210 B.C., Hikesios clearly had considerable influence. As well as this Megarian decree, he was honoured in an Athenian decree which is dated to about 175 B.C. ( IG_2³.1384 - German translation ).


The magistrates deliberated beforehand and recommended to the presidents {aisymnetai} [and the] council and the people: since Hikesios of Ephesos, the son of Metrodoros, who has been appointed as governor of Aigina by king Eumenes, has continually [shown] every concern [for] the people of Megara, [leaving] nothing to be desired . . .
